The expulsion of Congressman Tony Cardenas from the House of Representatives will undoubtedly amplify pressure on the Democratic Party to take a much stronger stance against sexual misconduct by male members of the party. This could take the form of either introducing tougher policy and procedures regarding the handling of complaints of sexual misconduct, or focusing on a zero-tolerance policy towards those embroiled in allegations of misconduct. It could also entail a much more focused effort to promote gender equality and respect in the workplace, and across the wider political sphere. Furthermore, further pressure could be felt for the Democratic Party to investigate all allegations of misconduct more stringently and take swift action against those found guilty of such offences, regardless of their senior standing within the party.
