Yale University recently hosted a delegation of Chinese government officials led by Huang Kunming, the head of the Communist Party’s Propaganda Department. The delegation met with university leaders and engaged in “fruitful discussions,” according to Yale President Peter Salovey.
Huang, who has close ties to China’s President Xi Jinping, is a vocal supporter of the Communist Party. He has repeatedly praised the progress made by the CCP and expressed his commitment to continue strengthening the party.
Yale’s decision to host the delegation has stirred up controversy in the U.S., with members of the Yale community — including some students and faculty members — expressing their concern over the university’s willingness to engage with someone who is closely associated with China’s authoritarian regime.
